Rxchange Launch New Short Stock Locator System
15 September 2010
Rxchange the online pharmacy stock exchange has launched a new facility which enables users to locate stock that is in short supply. Nationally the issue of stock shortages is a key concern resulting in patient suffering and increased work for community pharmacists.
A recent survey from the magazine Chemist+Druggist found that branded medicine shortages have resulted in cases where patients with life-threatening illnesses have suffered unnecessary distress and suffering. Additionally they found that on average most pharmacists will spend 7 working days a year chasing drugs that are in short supply.
To help pharmacists manage the problem of sourcing short supply stocks, Rxchange has introduced a new feature. Rxchange’s Short Stock Locator lists all drugs identified on the PSNC (Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee) web site which they know to be in short supply. The list is updated daily and links to matching or similar items listed for sale on Rxchange.
Michelle Claridge, Rxchange's Clinical Director said "Rxchange recognises that the problem of drug shortages is a highly complex one on which many solutions are being explored by industry bodies, but it is hoped that the development of this latest feature will help to ease this problem for Rxchange users and their patients."
